Developers description:
The Spirit Engine 2 is the follow up to the freeware game 'The Spirit Engine', originally released in November 2003. Set in a new world, with new characters, new graphics and a rewritten game engine, TSE-2 sets out to improve upon the game experience of the original in every possible way.

The Spirit Engine 2 features:
- An extensive plot spanning nine distinct chapters. History is unravelling in the once peaceful state of Lereftain. Murderous cults are running unchecked through the streets, parliament is bickering, tension is building with old enemies in the west and the country's inhuman rulers seem to be losing control of the situation. Three citizens who find their paths crossing in an act of charity one dark night will find themselves burdened with the responsibilty of not only defending the nation but deciding whether to save civilisation as they know it.
- All new and improved original graphics. Simple yet effective new effects, including parallax scrolling and screen-shake.
- The introduction of something sorely missing from the original - difficulty levels! Play at a level to suit you and either lock it there or feel free to change it as and when you like.
- An improved real-time combat system which builds upon the simplicity of the original. With an improved interface, greater control over characters, combat speed options and action synchronisation controls to make battles more tactical and more fun.
- New game combat mechanics such as automatic character recovery, party chains and combination strike damage bonuses.
- New, varied character skills to play with, including targetted attacks and debuffs, and a whole host of crafty, unfriendly creatures to use them on.
- A vast stock of equipable items with new abilities.

If it's as good as "The Spirit Engine" (which is still one of my favourite games) was, it should be a honour for us to host it. :notworthy:

I thought this was supposed to be a commercial title. Mark Pay told me... Otherwise - sure we are up for it.

Got it. Missed this - not crucial for the news - part.

Well I have been playing it during the last couple of hours and I am once again totally breathtaken by how well Mark Pay writes his stories. So many little details, and twists that works perfectly well with the game in situations where everything could easily have been very cliché.
I love this game, and I am certainly going to dig down into this the coming days. I think I might just try to record some of my gameplay in TSE2 so that everyone can see how it plays.

Once again Mark Pay proves why his games are wellknown with Freeware fans. The writing alone is good enough to be published as a animated book, and theg raphics and gameplay supports this to an extreme extent. Of course there are repetitive elements in this game but that comes with the genre, and he gets something else out of this as the abilities build on, and you can choose different characters and get a somewhat new game next time around. The difficulty level is spot on so far (I played till level 5 so far), and I only had to do 3 runs over the same field to powerlevel a little. And you cannot get past this game without noticing the soundtrack which is amazing! Could have been stolen from some hollywood movie, but we know it isn't! THE SPIRIT ENGINE 2 = GREAT WORK!

When I compare it to "The Spirit Engine 1" there is nothing much new in gameplay. But that's not necessarily a bad thing, because that was a great game and remains one of my favourite freeware games till this day.

"The Spirit Engine 2" is much more polished when it comes to the technical things. There are beautiful graphics and the soundtrack is absolute amazing. Story is interesting (even if the dialogues are a bit long-tongued from time to time) and you won't see where it's going right from the beginning.

It seems the game is a bit harder than the first one. but that shouldn't be much of a problem, because you can swith between four difficulty modes whenever you want.

So two thumbs up for the developers! Great game!
